Meet The Founder

Maker | Designer | Creator

Hello, My name is Colt. I’m the maker/designer behind Colty Stitched (formerly known as MM_Crochet17). I am from a small mining town based in Wyoming. I have lived in Wyoming my entire life. Born and raised, in these small/medium sized towns. I have always had a craving to be in a big city, racing upon the fast and busy streets, with that always something new to see and venture out to do. For right now, I will stay under the spacious blue skies of the small town life in Wyoming.

When, I was a kid, I always had this creative side to me. I tired getting into art and doing some doodling, but it just wouldn't click with me. I even tired doing some dabbling into the world of poetry. The clicking of words to paint a picture, feeling, or even an emotion, flew onto the canvas like splatter paint. Recently over the years, It just couldn’t flow out of me anymore, so it just came to a bust for me.

In 2016, after being diagnosed with being a type 1 diabetic, my Mother-in-Law taught me how to crochet. I mean at first, I just couldn’t grasp it. Like, figuring out how to hold the yarn or even the hook. She told me don’t think about that now, it will come later and it will be a natural reaction, but for right now just keep going in the round. That thing I made was literally like a kid coloring along the walls. I will always treasure this beginner moment, as where I began to where I am at now. I don’t regret taking the plunge after many years, wanting to create art with yarn. It has literally clicked with me.

After that lesson, I haven’t stopped and I craved more. I taught myself how to read a crochet pattern. Watching many YouTube tutorials, on more advanced techniques and stitches as beginner, because I wanted to learn more and push myself forward, to showcase a whole new love on the creative juices running rampant through my mind. I have a love for Simple Elegant Stitches, Puffy Puffs, Bobbing 4 Bobbles, and those Big Bold Eye-Popping Textures.

The moment I started my crocheting journey, I didn’t discover I would be here, where I am today taking on the designing monster or making this gorg website. Everyone around me, stated and still states “You are an amazing stitcher and make incredible things, you should actually sell the things that you make, so everyone can enjoy what you are creating/making.” It was a hard lesson that I overcame, now that is what I am doing. Creating this website and my forever trail of lifetime adventure just to enjoy.

In 2017, I designed my first ever Shawl design and Cowl design, that still holds a special little keepsake in my heart. Taking different simple elegant stitches to create those eye-popping textures, that will make you stand out in a crowd. That is where I haven’t stopped or gave up at all. I am still designing and making, those keepsake treasures. I just have stirred into a whole another path that I am happy about, which is garment designing — now, just have to actually write them up and release them. I can just say that is scary and terrifying teeth chatter, but I am ready to see where it will take me on my exploring journey. The path is winding and creating many Y’s. I do also design Beanies, Mittens, Scarf’s/Shawls/Cowls, Blankets, and anything home decor to spice things up. Keep a close eye on me, as more things will be coming on this adventure crocheting journey.

I also want to share with you y’all something that I am very honored about last year in December, I reinstated my CNA (certified nursing assistant) licenses. Which is what I love to do and runs through my bones. I am planning on going back to school to get my Nursing license. I can’t see myself doing anything else than taking care of others. It brings me joy and happiness into my heart, that I can leave impacting impression on others. It’s also in my love of crocheting.

I bring happiness and joy in everything that I create and the lives that I touch. Please note, I hope that you can see that through my piece of my neck of the woods. I hope that we will become friends and keep people smiling for years to come. We will become crochet besties for the win.
